Helping Hands for Children & Families

Helping Hands is:

A nonprofit organization that is supported by the Children’s Services Division of the Maine Dept. Health and Human Services, United Way of Aroostook, the Maine Transition Network, and private grants and donations.

We provide information, referrals, and training’s to assist families and individuals in meeting their needs. This is done through research, networking, and the help of community volunteers.

            Helping Hands for Children & Families is here to assist families and individuals in their efforts to master the challenges of life, regardless of the nature or the severity.

Helping Hands offers a link to needed resources, information, educational opportunities, and a network of caring people.

What are these services?

Information and Referral:

We provide information and referrals to families, or anyone helping a family, with a Special Needs Child. Any child that is not having a need met is considered a Special Needs Child at Helping Hands.

We will help you (family members, service providers, or friends) find information on any topic that will help a child in need. We also help you find services that will positively affect any child’s wellbeing.

Bridges Transition Council.

Providing transition training and/or resources to students with special needs, their families, and school personnel.

Volunteer mentors provide role modeling to children to help them develop into successful and confident adults.

  • Community-based programs (one-on-one relationships between a responsible adult and a child)
  • School-based programs (responsible high-school students mentoring younger students in a monitored group setting)
  • Site-based programs (special events for mentors and mentees from both school and community based programs)

We can help you find someone that understands your situation, has had a similar personal experience, has reached a better place in life, and wants to help others do the same.

            Finding such a person can be the best thing in the world for you when your life is not going well, regardless of the circumstances.
